Lower Brule Man Charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute
A 42-year-old man from Lower Brule, South Dakota, has been accused of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute it.
Jason Long was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 13, 2013, for his alleged involvement in the crime. The indictment charges Long with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
According to the indictment, the maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years of imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, or both; a mandatory period of supervised release of at least 3 years up to life; and an additional 2 years of supervised release upon revocation. Restitution and a $100 special assessment may also be ordered.
Long appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 25, 2013, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuting the case.
The charge against Long is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Long was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service, and a trial date has not been set.
The Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force is continuing its investigation into the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich will be prosecuting the case against Long.
