A Lower Brule man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.
On March 6, 2013, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Martin Charger, 37, to 151 months in prison, 5 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Charger was convicted of Sexual Abuse, which stemmed from an incident in 2007 when he was in an intimate relationship with the victim’s mother. He intimidated the victim, who was under the age of 12, to engage in sexual acts.
The victim was forced to participate in the abuse because she was in fear of Charger and afraid of his size. Charger pled guilty to Sexual Abuse on December 18, 2012.
The investigation into Charger’s crimes was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuting the case.
Charger was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal after his sentencing. His sentence is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of child abuse and the commitment of law enforcement to protecting victims.
