New Orleans, LA – In a shocking display of disregard for United States law, Luis Alfredo Lezama-Ramirez, a 43-year-old Honduran national, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for illegal re-entry into the country.
According to court documents, Lezama-Ramirez admitted to re-entering the United States after being previously deported on June 8, 2018. This is not his first offense, as he had also been deported in 2006, 2009, and 2012.
Lezama-Ramirez will be deported once again following the completion of his sentence. In addition to his prison time, he was also ordered to pay a $100.00 mandatory special assessment fee.
The investigation into this matter was led by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the agency in bringing Lezama-Ramirez to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr. of the General Crimes Unit is responsible for the prosecution of this case.
Lezama-Ramirez’s sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of violating United States immigration laws. As a nation, we must take a stand against those who would disregard our laws and put our communities at risk.
This case serves as a warning to others who may be contemplating similar actions. The consequences of illegal re-entry are severe and can have far-reaching impacts on our society.
The people of New Orleans and the surrounding areas can rest a little easier knowing that Lezama-Ramirez will be behind bars for the next two years.
