Luis Morales, a 48-year-old Allentown man, is facing prison time after being sentenced for cocaine possession in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Morales was found guilty of possessing with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Morales was stopped on Interstate 80 westbound in Mercer County on December 10, 2020. During the traffic stop, officers discovered 1,987 grams of cocaine in Morales’ vehicle. The discovery was made during a routine traffic stop.
Morales was sentenced by United States District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan to 60 months in prison. In addition to his prison sentence, Morales will serve four years of supervised release following his prison term. This is not Morales’ first run-in with the law, as he was on state parole at the time of the arrest following a 2017 Pennsylvania state conviction and 3-year to 6-year prison sentence for cocaine trafficking.
Morales was represented by his attorney in court, but the name of the attorney was not released. The Pennsylvania State Police and the Department of Homeland Security conducted the investigation leading to Morales’ conviction and sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller and Special Assistant United States Attorney/Mercer County Assistant District Attorney Shane T. Crevar prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States. Morales’ sentence marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Morales’ case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of drug trafficking. Possessing with intent to distribute cocaine is a serious offense that can result in lengthy prison sentences. The Pennsylvania State Police and other law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe from the scourge of drug trafficking.
The case against Morales is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State Police and the Department of Homeland Security demonstrated their commitment to keeping our communities safe by conducting a thorough investigation and securing a conviction.
