Luis Padilla, Escape from Custody, Connecticut 2024

LUIS PADILLA, a 39-year-old man from Waterbury, has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for escaping from a halfway house in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

According to court documents and statements made in court, PADILLA was originally sentenced to 78 months of imprisonment in 2018 for conspiring with others to traffic narcotics from Connecticut to Maine.

On March 17, 2021, PADILLA was transferred from a federal prison in West Virginia to the Drapelick Center, a Residential Reentry Center (halfway house) in Bloomfield, to complete his custodial sentence.

However, on June 1, 2022, PADILLA walked out of the Drapelick Center and never returned. He was located and arrested in Bangor, Maine, on April 5, 2024.

On June 10, 2024, PADILLA pleaded guilty to escape from the custody of the Attorney General.

This matter was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rahul Kale.
