Denver – In a landmark drug trafficking case, a federal jury in Denver has found Troy Andrew Lujan, 36, guilty of two counts related to the distribution of methamphetamine and heroin. United States Attorney Jason R. Dunn and Denver FBI Special Agent in Charge Dean Phillips announced the conviction.
Lujan was indicted on November 15, 2018, and detained pending trial since December 12, 2018. Court records and trial evidence revealed that on October 24, 2017, a confidential informant met Lujan at his Lakewood apartment to complete a drug deal, which was audio and video recorded. Lujan sold the informant half an ounce of methamphetamine and half an ounce of heroin for $950.
Further evidence presented at trial showed that Lujan sold approximately an ounce of both drugs per day from his apartment, catering to around 20 regular customers. After deliberating only two days, the jury returned convictions on both counts yesterday afternoon.
‘Heroin and methamphetamine are destroying lives in the State of Colorado,’ said United States Attorney Jason Dunn. ‘We’ve made targeting these crimes a priority, and we are grateful for the excellent work of our law enforcement partners, including the FBI, who are working to remove drug dealers from our communities.’
‘The FBI’s partnership with the United States Attorney’s Office ensures that violent criminals in our community are held accountable,’ said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Dean Phillips. ‘Yesterday’s conviction of Troy Andrew Lujan should serve as a deterrent to those intent on trafficking drugs to our community’s citizens.’
For his convictions, Lujan faces no less than five years in prison and not more than a $5 million fine, followed by at least four years of supervised release. He will be sentenced at a later date by Chief United States District Court Judge Philip A. Brimmer.
This matter was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter McNeilly and Rajiv Mohan. Case No. 18-cr-533.
