RALEIGH – A Weldon man has been sentenced to prison for selling crack cocaine near a high school.
Luther Allen Terry, 33, of Weldon, North Carolina, was sentenced to 96 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release for distribution of crack cocaine. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle in federal court.
The investigation into Terry’s activities began on April 16 and 17, 2014, when the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office used an informant to buy crack cocaine from Terry twice near the Weldon High School in Weldon, N.C.
Terry had previously pled guilty to the charge on September 4, 2015. His sentence was enhanced due to two prior state convictions for selling cocaine, which made him a career offender.
The investigation of this case was conducted by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. The federal prosecution was handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Glenn Perry, a prosecutor with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office. Perry’s assignment to the United States Attorney’s Office has been made possible by grants funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission.
Terry’s case highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in North Carolina. The state continues to see a high volume of cases related to the distribution of crack cocaine.
