United States Attorney Jay Clayton and top law enforcement officials have charged Faisil McCants with a monstrous act of violence that left a 69-year-old woman dead in East Harlem. On August 27, 2025, McCants is alleged to have robbed a drug dealer at gunpoint before opening fire on a crowded street with a machine gun.
In a chilling display of cold-blooded intent, McCants fired 15 rounds from his weapon, striking and killing Robin Wright, an innocent bystander. Today, the 18-year-old defendant was arrested and is set to appear in court tomorrow for this heinous crime.
Clayton emphasized that such senseless acts are unacceptable and vowed to do all that can be done to rid the streets of violent criminals. Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel of HSI echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for justice and safety for New Yorkers.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch paid tribute to Wright’s memory, noting her status as a beloved community member and expressing gratitude for the swift actions of law enforcement agencies involved.
The Complaint details how McCants and two co-conspirators robbed a drug dealer near East 109th Street before fleeing with marijuana. During this escape, they opened fire on the victim. McCants now faces life in prison if convicted.
McCANTS is charged with Hobbs Act robbery and the use, carrying, and possession of a machine gun. The sentences for these charges are severe and carry mandatory minimums that could lead to his imprisonment for decades.
