Mail Thief Stole Gift Cards, Package
A former postal carrier has pleaded guilty to stealing mail from the Carbondale Post Office. Michelle L. Leggans, 36, of Murphysboro, Illinois, admitted to stealing two items of mail in 2012 while working as a postal mail carrier.
The stolen items included a gift card from Kohl’s Department Store and a parcel from eBay. Leggans faces up to 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 3 years of supervised release. Sentencing has been set for August 10, 2016.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William E. Coonan.
