New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Heroin
A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to distributing heroin, according to a recent plea agreement.
Malcom Johnson, age 41, a resident of New Orleans, pleaded guilty on April 16, 2024, before United States District Judge Susie Morgan to violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
According to court records, Johnson sold $400 worth of heroin to a DEA confidential source in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. He was charged with violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C).
Johnson faces up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000,000, at least 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Haller, Senior Litigation Counsel.
Johnson’s sentencing is set for July 23, 2024. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
The guilty plea marks another significant blow to the opioid epidemic in New Orleans.
