A 39-year-old Granite City man, Jeremy Wallace, has been sentenced to 175 months in federal prison for transporting a 16-year-old minor across state lines with the intent to engage in criminal sexual assault. The crime occurred in April 2022, when Wallace drove to Missouri to pick up the minor victim and then sexually assaulted them at his residence in Granite City. Wallace pleaded guilty to one count of Transportation with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity in June. He is also facing separate charges in Madison County, Illinois, for firearms and criminal sexual assault.
The Granite City Police Department led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Reppert prosecuting the case. The sentence will run concurrently with any term of imprisonment imposed in Wallace’s pending criminal sexual assault case and consecutively with any term imposed in his pending firearms case.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft stated that individuals who sexually assault underage girls should expect to face the full weight of federal law.
Wallace’s sentence includes 5 years of supervised release following his imprisonment. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect minors from sexual exploitation and abuse.
