Man Gets 97 Months for Child Pornography Charge
A former resident of Bapchule, Arizona, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for receiving a single image of child pornography. Angel Xavier Catha, 21, had previously pleaded guilty to the charge and will be required to register as a sex offender.
Catha’s sentence was increased due to his subsequent sexual abuse of a 13-year-old victim, who is also an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community. The victim was a minor at the time of the abuse, which occurred while Catha was living on the Gila River Indian Community.
According to court documents, Catha repeatedly requested that the victim provide him with child pornography, and the victim eventually sent Catha a single image via Facebook. The investigation into Catha’s actions was conducted by the Gila River Police Department.
The prosecution in this case was handled by Christine Ducat Keller, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, Phoenix. Catha’s sentence includes 20 years of supervised release following his time in prison.
The case is a disturbing example of the exploitation and abuse of a minor by someone in a position of trust. Catha’s actions have caused irreparable harm to the victim and their community, and he will now face the consequences of his crimes.
Catha’s case is a reminder of the importance of protecting our children and holding accountable those who would seek to harm them. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, is committed to pursuing justice in cases like this and ensuring that those who commit sex crimes are held accountable.
Catha will be required to register as a sex offender and will face significant challenges upon his release from prison. His sentence is a reflection of the severity of his crimes and the harm he has caused.
