Man Sentenced for Stealing from Employer
A Plummer man was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for aiding the transportation of stolen goods, a crime that cost his former employer hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Trevor Mokry, 33, was ordered to pay $581,445.24 in restitution to Stimson Lumber Company, a lumber mill in Plummer where he used to work.
Mokry pleaded guilty to the charge in April 2012, admitting that he entered into an unauthorized sales arrangement with a business in Spokane, Washington, and sold Stimson’s lumber without permission.
According to court records, Mokry worked in the lumber yard and was responsible for loading and unloading trucks. He would load the trucks with lumber and receive a check from the driver, but never paid Stimson for the lumber.
Mokry was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was found to have been involved in the scheme between June 2007 and June 2011.
U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge sentenced Mokry to 18 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release.
Mokry’s scheme cost Stimson Lumber Company $581,445.24, and he was ordered to pay back the full amount in restitution.
The case highlights the importance of internal controls and monitoring in preventing employee theft.
It is unclear what motivated Mokry to commit the crime, but the case serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance in preventing white-collar crime.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case and brought Mokry to justice.
