Reading Resident Charged with Illegal Reentry After Deportation

PHILADELPHIA – Marcos Arana, a 44-year-old Reading resident, has been charged with illegal reentry after deportation, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger.

According to the indictment, Arana, an alien and native and citizen of Mexico, was found in the United States after having been deported from the United States on or about September 5, 2000.

The indictment alleges that on or about February 29, 2016, Arana was in the United States, violating his deportation status.

Arana, if convicted, faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (“ERO”), and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr.

It’s worth noting that an indictment is an accusation, and Arana is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Arana’s case highlights the importance of immigration laws and the consequences of violating them.

An indictment is not a conviction, and Arana’s guilt or innocence will be determined in a court of law.
