Davenport Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Felon in Possession of Firearm Charge
Marcus Anthony Brown, 27, of Davenport, Iowa, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a violent incident that unfolded in a local parking lot.
According to eyewitness accounts, Brown fired two shots into the air from what appeared to be a handgun on September 9, 2016. The incident occurred after a fight broke out in a parking lot, and an off-duty Davenport police officer was the first to arrive on the scene.
Despite an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Davenport Police Department, no firearm was recovered at the scene. However, officers did seize several rounds of .380 caliber ammunition, which was later found to be in Brown’s possession.
Brown has a prior history of felony convictions, with two convictions dating back to 2005. His recent sentence includes three years of supervised release and a $100 fine to be paid to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
Chief District Court Judge John A. Jarvey presided over the sentencing, which was announced by United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in Iowa and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. As this case demonstrates, even without a recovered firearm, individuals found in possession of ammunition can face serious consequences.
