Randy Patrie, Firearms Violations, Iowa 2013
Randy Patrie, a 44-year-old man from Charles City, Iowa, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for possessing sawed-off shotguns and being a felon in possession of firearms.
The sentence was handed down in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade, who imposed a maximum sentence of 240 months’ imprisonment. Patrie was also fined a special assessment of $200 and must serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
Patrie’s case has a complicated history. He had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment, but a subsequent Supreme Court decision in an unrelated case overturned the sentence on appeal. As a result, the court was limited to imposing the maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Chickasaw and Floyd County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Charles City Police Department.
Patrie is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case file number is 13-CR-2016, and more information can be found at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
