A Fort Pierre man is facing serious consequences after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance.
Brent Flood, 23, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 13, 2013 and entered a guilty plea to the Superseding Information charging him with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 1 year of imprisonment, a $1,000 fine, but not more than a $100,000 fine, or both; 1 year of supervised release; an additional year of supervised release upon revocation and $25 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
The charge stems from an incident on April 5, 2012 when Flood knowingly and intentionally possessed marijuana, a Schedule I controlled substance.
The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Task Force, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case.
Flood was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, which has been set for May 13, 2013.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region and the consequences of those who engage in such activities.
