Flooding Justice: Fort Pierre Man Faces Consequences for Marijuana Possession
A Fort Pierre man has learned the hard way that possessing a controlled substance can lead to serious consequences. Brent Flood, age 23, was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment for his role in a marijuana possession case.
According to court documents, Flood knowingly and intentionally possessed marijuana, a Schedule I controlled substance, on April 5, 2012. His actions did not go unnoticed, as he was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 19, 2012.
A Superseding Information was filed against Flood on March 12, 2013, and he subsequently pled guilty to the charge. The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, a team dedicated to keeping our communities safe from the scourge of narcotics.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case, ensuring that Flood faced the full weight of the law. U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno handed down the sentence, also slapping Flood with a $1,000 fine and a $25 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case serves as a stark reminder that the consequences of drug possession can be severe. Flood’s six-month sentence is a testament to the seriousness with which the courts view this crime. As the people of Fort Pierre and South Dakota demand justice, it is clear that those who break the law will be held accountable.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson expressed his commitment to keeping our communities safe from the dangers of narcotics. ‘The Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich have done a tremendous job in bringing this case to justice,’ Johnson said.
Flood’s fate was sealed when he was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service, bringing an end to his involvement in the case. As the people of Fort Pierre and South Dakota look to the future, they can take comfort in knowing that justice has been served.
