Marijuana Trafficker Sentenced on St. Thomas

St. Thomas, USVI – A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to four months in prison for his role in a marijuana trafficking operation on the island.

Thomas Olive, II, 29, was sentenced yesterday on his conviction of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute, announced United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert.

Evidence presented at Olive’s trial established that on December 11, 2018, he was the driver of a vehicle travelling on Main Street with heavily tinted windows. Officers of the Virgin Islands Police Department ordered Olive out of the vehicle and discovered four pounds of marijuana packaged for distribution, along with $6,225 in cash and an unlicensed Glock firearm.

District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez handed down the sentence, which includes four months incarceration, and six months home confinement. Olive will also serve three years supervised release with 300 hours of community service.

As part of his sentence, Olive will forfeit $6,225 in cash and was ordered to pay a $4,000 fine. The case was investigated by the Virgin Islands Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Everard E. Potter.

Olive’s sentencing is a significant blow to marijuana traffickers operating on the island and demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to disrupting and dismantling these operations.

The investigation and prosecution of this case are a testament to the collaborative efforts of local and federal law enforcement agencies working together to keep our communities safe.
