Mario Hernandez-Marin, Illegal Re-Entry, Louisiana 2022

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – A Honduran national is facing serious charges after being indicted for illegal re-entry into the United States.

Mario Hernandez-Marin, a 49-year-old Honduran national, was charged in a one-count indictment for illegal re-entry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

According to the indictment, Hernandez-Marin reentered the United States after he was previously deported on June 23, 2011.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the indictment, emphasizing that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Hernandez-Marin faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a maximum fine of up to $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of up to one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. He also faces sentencing enhancement of 20 years due to a prior felony conviction.

The U.S. Attorney praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr. is in charge of the prosecution.

Hernandez-Marin’s alleged actions are a stark reminder of the severity of immigration crimes. The indictment serves as a warning to those who attempt to circumvent the law and re-enter the country illegally.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who commit immigration crimes are held accountable for their actions.
