In a stark reminder of the devastating impact of drug trafficking, Mark A. Barraza Saenz, 22, of Grand Island, Nebraska, was sentenced to 132 months in prison for his involvement in a firearm and drug trafficking crime.

United States Attorney Steven Russell announced that Barraza Saenz was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard for possessing with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of that drug trafficking crime.

The investigation began on October 12, 2021, when a Merrick County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a silver sedan being driven erratically in Central City, Nebraska. The deputy initiated a traffic stop after witnessing several driving infractions.
