A Hammond man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for producing child pornography, a heinous crime that has shaken our community to its core.
Mark Nagel, 37, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced to 300 months imprisonment followed by 10 years of supervised release by Hammond District Court Judge Rudy Lozano.
Nagel pleaded guilty to two counts of producing child pornography, a crime that he committed between September 2015 and February 2016.
According to documents filed in this case, Nagel met a 17-year-old girl via an online dating site and persuaded her to send him sexually explicit videos and photos of herself. He then met a 13-year-old girl via the same website and engaged in a sexual relationship with her, during which he engaged in sex acts and took sexually explicit videos and photos of the girl.
This case was the result of a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Indiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Abizer Zanzi handled the case.
Production of child pornography is a serious crime that not only harms the victims but also perpetuates a cycle of abuse and exploitation. We commend the brave victims who came forward to report this crime and the law enforcement agencies that worked tirelessly to bring Nagel to justice.
The sentence imposed on Nagel serves as a reminder that those who commit such heinous crimes will be held accountable for their actions.
