Two Juveniles Charged in High School Student Homicide

A devastating act of violence shook the streets of Washington D.C. on September 11, 2023, as 17-year-old A.C. lost his life in a senseless act of violence. According to authorities, Marlan Smith, Jr., 16, and Anthony Monroe, 17, both of Washington D.C., were involved in a sixth armed robbery that turned deadly.

The two juveniles, now facing severe consequences, were presented in Superior Court and charged as adults with first degree felony murder while armed. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Acting Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

As the court heard arguments, it was discovered that Monroe and Smith had committed five separate armed robberies prior to the sixth, which resulted in A.C.’s tragic death by shooting. The defendants entered pleas of not guilty and are currently being held without bond pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 4, 2023, before Judge Robert Okun.
