Marquis Hicks, Firearms Conspiracy, West Virginia 2020

A Martinsburg man has admitted to his role in a conspiracy involving the illegal purchase and transportation of firearms, according to a recent conviction.

Martinsburg resident Marquis Hicks, age 30, pleaded guilty to one count of Conspiracy in a West Virginia court, stemming from an incident in March 2020.

According to court documents, Hicks worked with another individual to purchase, possess, and transfer firearms to an out-of-state resident.

Hicks faces up to five years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 as a result of his plea. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducting the investigation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.

As a result of his plea, Hicks is scheduled to face a significant prison sentence, with a maximum of five years and a fine of up to $250,000. The sentence will be determined by the court based on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history the defendant may have.
