A West Virginia man has admitted to making a false statement to purchase a firearm, Grimy Times has learned.
Ronald Louis Browning, 33, of Kearneysville, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘False Statement During Purchase of Firearm.’
The crime occurred in December 2020 in Berkeley County.
Browning faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives conducted the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing.
The exact date of the purchase was not disclosed by authorities. However, the plea agreement includes a stipulation that the sentence will be determined based on the seriousness of the offense and Browning’s prior criminal history.
Browning’s case highlights the importance of accurately reporting firearm purchases to authorities.
