Michael C. Meade, Jr., Possession by a Prohibited Person, West Virginia 2021

A 27-year-old Masontown, West Virginia man has been handed a stiff sentence for violating local gun laws.

Michael C. Meade, Jr., 27, pleaded guilty in May 2021 to one count of Possession by a Prohibited Person in U.S. District Court, Northern District of West Virginia, in Clarksburg.

The crime date was February 2019 in Marion County, West Virginia. Meade had previously been convicted of a domestic battery charge in Marion County.

Meade admitted to having a semi-automatic pistol, which is a serious offense under West Virginia law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives and the Fairmont Police Department investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Danae DeMasi-Lemon prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the trial.

Meade will serve 40 months in prison for this serious offense. The defendant’s sentence is a stark reminder that violating local gun laws has severe consequences.

Meade’s sentence is a testament to the efforts of law enforcement to keep the community safe.
