A Pendleton County man has been sentenced to 11 months of incarceration for a firearms charge, the latest in a string of crimes committed in the Mountain State.
Donnie Gale Leggett, Jr., 33, of Brandywine, West Virginia, was sentenced on October 2020 to 11 months of incarceration for one count of “False Statement During Purchase of Firearm,” announced Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.
According to court documents, Leggett admitted to making a false statement to purchase a firearm in Mineral County in November 2019.
Leggett’s sentence is the result of a guilty plea entered in October 2020. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigating.
The case was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh.
The sentencing marks another example of the importance of gun safety and responsible gun ownership in the region.
