Marrero Man Charged with Bank Robbery
A brazen bank robbery shook the streets of Marrero on July 22, 2016, when Whitney Bank was robbed by a suspect who remains elusive until this day. Now, a local man has been charged with the crime.
Travis Carter, a 37-year-old Marrero resident, was indicted by a grand jury for his alleged role in the bank robbery. According to court documents, Carter entered the Whitney Bank in Marrero and committed the robbery.
The FBI, praised by U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite for their diligent work in investigating the matter, uncovered evidence that led to Carter’s indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany Reed will be handling the prosecution.
Carter, if convicted, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of three years, and a mandatory $100 special assessment.
U.S. Attorney Polite reminded the public that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Carter’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of committing a violent crime. Bank robberies, in particular, put innocent lives at risk and have a profound impact on the community.
The investigation into the Whitney Bank robbery is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. As the case against Carter unfolds, one thing is clear: justice will be served.
