A Marrero woman has admitted to playing a key role in a cocaine trafficking operation that spanned from Houston to New Orleans, authorities said.
Sabrina Bourgeois, 34, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of powder cocaine, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite.
Bourgeois was arrested on February 8, 2015, after traveling from Houston to New Orleans, carrying four kilograms of powder cocaine in the back-seat of her truck, court documents show.
As part of her plea agreement, Bourgeois admitted that she had made frequent trips between Houston and New Orleans, carrying money and multiple kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, in furtherance of her drug conspiracy with her codefendant, Shannon Duplessis.
The investigation into Bourgeois’s activities was a joint effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Houston Police Department, U.S. Attorney Polite said.
Bourgeois faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, a maximum possible sentence of 40 years in prison and/or a $5,000,000 fine, and at least four years of supervised release.
U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance has set sentencing for August 10, 2016, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Long will be responsible for the prosecution.
The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against cocaine trafficking in the region and the importance of law enforcement cooperation in disrupting these operations.
