A Midland man has been convicted of multiple child exploitation offenses involving an 11-year-old child.
A federal jury convicted 52-year-old Martin Renteria of production of child pornography, sex trafficking of a child, possession of child pornography, and committing a new crime against a child while registered as a sex offender.
Renteria, of Midland, Texas, enticed the 11-year-old into engaging in sexual acts on multiple occasions, purchasing expensive gifts in exchange for the acts, and even recorded a video of one of the incidents. According to court documents, Renteria had committed similar crimes in the past.
The Midland Police Department investigated the case, with computer forensics assistance from the Justice Department’s High Technology Investigative Unit.
Renteria is scheduled to be sentenced on February 11, 2022, and faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Hoff for the Western District of Texas made the announcement, along with Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
Renteria’s crimes are a stark reminder of the dangers of online exploitation and the importance of continued efforts to protect our children from predators like him.
