Martin Tre Black Cloud, 19, Indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in South Dakota
A 19-year-old man from Bismarck, North Dakota, has been accused of a violent crime in South Dakota. Martin Tre Black Cloud, 19, was indicted in September 2022 for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota.
The alleged assault occurred on June 28, 2022, in McIntosh, South Dakota, on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. Black Cloud is accused of using a knife in the assault.
Black Cloud appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 16, 2022, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment. He was released on bond pending trial.
The maximum penalty for the crime is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into the assault is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Standing Rock Agency and the Corson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook is prosecuting the case.
A trial date was set for January 17, 2023. Black Cloud is currently out on bond and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
