Marvin Gene McLaughlin, a 58-year-old man from Enid, Oklahoma, has been brought to justice for a serious crime in West Virginia. McLaughlin has admitted to violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
According to the United States Attorney Bill Powell, McLaughlin traveled from Oklahoma to Marion County, West Virginia without updating his sex offender registration in January 2018. This is a serious offense that requires immediate attention.
The charges against McLaughlin include one count of ‘Failure to Update Sex Offender Registration.’ This crime carries a maximum sentence of 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. McLaughlin is now facing the consequences of his actions.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Wagner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The United States Marshals Service investigated the crime and brought McLaughlin to justice.
