Bank Robbery Rocks Shrewsbury Township
A brazen bank heist shook Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania, when Robert Donnell, 56, of Freeland, Maryland, allegedly robbed the BB&T Bank on May 23, 2018, making off with $1,584.
According to the indictment, Donnell, a Maryland resident, walked into the BB&T Bank in Shrewsbury Township on May 23, 2018, and robbed the bank of $1,584. The alleged crime was investigated by the Southern Regional Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Maryland State Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Chelsea Schinnour is prosecuting the case, which is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program. This program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Donnell was indicted on August 29, 2018, by a federal grand jury for bank robbery. The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is twenty years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The case is part of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ renewed focus on targeting violent criminals. Sessions reinvigorated the Project Safe Neighborhoods program in 2017, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.
Donnell’s alleged crime is a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing and investigating crimes. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
