Jonathan Bethune, a 40-year-old Massachusetts man, was sentenced to 111 months in prison for running a cocaine operation out of his Biddeford, Maine residence. Bethune, also known as ‘Lord Smitty’, pleaded guilty on January 7, 2025, to being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The conviction stems from a search warrant executed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents at Bethune’s home, where they found a loaded pistol, cocaine, and over $6,800 in cash.
According to court records, Bethune used the pistol to protect himself, his drugs, and his drug proceeds. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing firearms. The investigation was led by HSI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. in Portland, Maine.
Bethune’s sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and gun crimes in Maine and beyond.
