Blacksburg Man Sentenced on Pair of Federal Charges

A Blacksburg man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a cocaine distribution scheme.

Matthew Jeremy Holland, 24, of Blacksburg, Va., was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for distribution of cocaine and possessing a firearm by a previously convicted felon, according to authorities.

The sentencing took place on May 22, 2024 in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke.

According to evidence presented by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Bassford, Holland was charged after attempting to sell cocaine and a firearm to an informant with the New River Regional Drug Task Force.

The investigation of the case was conducted by New River Regional Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Bassford prosecuted the case for the United States.

Holland previously pled guilty to one count of distribution of cocaine and one count of possessing a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and gun violence in our communities.
