McLaughlin Man Charged With Child Abuse and Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender
A McLaughlin, South Dakota, man has been charged with the heinous crime of child abuse and domestic assault by a habitual offender, leaving the community shaken and in outrage.
According to United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, Kyle White Bull, age 27, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 10, 2014, for his alleged involvement in the abuse of three juveniles on or about April 16, 2014. The indictment also alleges that White Bull committed a domestic assault at the time, and had at least two separate prior convictions for assaults against a spouse or intimate partner.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 15 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and up to $400 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into the case is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Law Enforcement Agency, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.
White Bull was released on bond pending trial, but a trial date has not been set. The charges against him are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
