McLaughlin Man Sentenced For Failure To Pay Child Support

A McLaughlin man has faced the music for his egregious failure to pay child support.

According to sources, Jesse L. Brown Otter, 45, was sentenced to time served, a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $25,342.12.

Otter was indicted on August 14, 2012, by a federal grand jury for failing to pay over $25,000 in past due child support. He was ordered by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court, Corson County, to pay $150 per month for his minor child, commencing August 1, 1992.

Astonishingly, Otter had not made a child support payment since July 2007, leaving a total arrearage amount of $25,342.12. On February 26, 2013, he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.

Otter’s refusal to pay child support has left his minor child without financial support, leaving a trail of financial hardship in its wake. His sentence is a testament to the consequences of neglecting one’s responsibilities.
