A Nixa woman has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting two children and distributing child pornography over the internet.
Meagan Nell Bowman, 26, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Greg Kays on February 2015 (no specific date mentioned in the source) after pleading guilty to all four counts of a federal indictment that charged her with two counts of sexually exploiting a minor and two counts of receiving and distributing child pornography.
The charges against Bowman stem from an investigation that began when her estranged husband discovered photographs in her email account of her sexual abuse of a 3-year-old child and a 2-year-old child.
Bowman admitted to using her cell phone to take photos of herself sexually abusing the 3-year-old child and sending them to two unknown men she met after posting an advertisement on Craigslist.
She also admitted to receiving or creating 32 images of child pornography found on her cell phone.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI and the Nixa, Mo., Police Department.
Bowman will serve supervised release for the rest of her life following incarceration.
