Meghan Renken, a Dickinson County Woman, Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Conspiracy in Iowa

A Dickinson County woman has been convicted of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in the region. Meghan Renken, 29, from Spirit Lake, Iowa, was found guilty of conspiring to distribute more than 1500 grams of pure methamphetamine from July 2018 and continuing to on or about March 2020 in the Dickinson County, Iowa area.

According to authorities, Renken admitted her involvement in the conspiracy at a plea hearing on September 14, 2021. During the hearing, she acknowledged her role in distributing the illicit substance. On March 17, 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a co-conspirator’s residence and seized 20 pounds of methamphetamine. Renken and another co-conspirator were stopped leaving the residence in a vehicle, and a search of the vehicle revealed 3 pounds of pure methamphetamine that Renken and her co-conspirator admitted they had plans to distribute to other individuals.

The case was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies in the region. The task force consists of personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, the South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Iowa National Guard, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the United States Marshals Service, and the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.

Renken faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well as a $10,000,000 fine and 5 years to life of supervised release following any imprisonment. Sentencing will be set after a presentence report is prepared.

The case file number is 20-4050. The investigation and prosecution of this case are a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit drug trade and bring those responsible to justice.

Meghan Renken, a 29-year-old resident of Spirit Lake, Iowa, has been taken into custody by the United States Marshal and will remain in custody pending sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde.
