Melbourne Woman Sentenced To 15 Years For Child Sex Abuse Videos
Orlando, Florida – A 23-year-old Melbourne woman was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for producing and distributing videos depicting the sexual abuse of a child.
Lisa Vaughn, 23, pleaded guilty on June 21, 2021, to producing and distributing videos and images of child sexual abuse material. The videos and images showed Vaughn sexually abusing a pre-teen child.
According to court documents, Vaughn was 18 years old when she began an online romance with Person One, who portrayed himself as a 19-year-old male living in Florida. In reality, Person One was approximately 41 years old and lived in Oregon. Vaughn produced and distributed approximately 8 videos and 5 images of child sexual abuse material to Person One.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which played a crucial role in bringing Vaughn to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer M. Harrington prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Vaughn’s sentence includes a 10-year term of supervised release and registration as a sex offender.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online grooming and the importance of protecting children from sexual exploitation. It also highlights the critical role that law enforcement agencies and prosecutors play in bringing perpetrators to justice.
