Former Mayor of Melissa, Texas, David E. Dorman, and his accomplice John Christie have been locked away for their involvement in a $70,000 bribery scheme. The duo faced justice after pleading guilty to their crimes.
Dorman, 66, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for mail fraud. He solicited the bribe from Christie, 65, while serving as mayor to facilitate land annexation between Melissa and McKinney, Texas. Dorman’s treachery has been met with a three-year supervised release after his sentence.
Christie, also of Frisco, Texas, was sentenced to six months in federal prison for misprision of a felony. He was ordered to give up his real estate license and pay a $5,000 fine. Christie’s role involved making payments to Dorman in exchange for land development opportunities.
“Public officials are held to the highest standard of conduct,” said U.S. Attorney John M. Bales. “David Dorman breached the trust that he held, and we hold him fully accountable for his crime.”
The investigation was led by the FBI, with prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shamoil T. Shipchandler.
