INDIANAPOLIS – Melvin Anderson, 23, of Indianapolis, will spend the next 17.5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to the sickening distribution of child sexual abuse material. Anderson ran a calculated, profit-driven operation on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), peddling horrific images and videos of exploited children.
Between December 2022 and March 2023, Anderson maintained multiple public accounts advertising links to cloud storage folders brimming with over 600 videos and images. These weren’t carelessly shared files; Anderson actively marketed them, even including thumbnails of explicit content in his advertisements. He accepted payment via CashApp and Apple Pay, pricing the links between $10 and $25 apiece.
The operation was disturbingly organized. Anderson categorized the abuse material by the age of the victims, and the price reflected this – younger victims commanded higher fees. He even created preview videos, showcasing the contents of the folders to entice potential buyers. This wasn’t impulse; it was a cold, calculated business built on unimaginable suffering.
“This predator not only revictimized children by exploiting the worst days of their lives over and over again to further demand, but did so just to make a quick buck,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney John E. Childress for the Southern District of Indiana. “If not for the work of the Secret Service and our AUSAs, this dangerous man would still be profiting from such horrific abuse and incentivizing others to exploit and harm children.”
Ike Barnes, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Indianapolis Field Office, emphasized the agency’s commitment to combating online child exploitation. “Child sexual predators will be held accountable for their vile actions and the sentencing in this case demonstrates that,” Barnes said. “The U.S. Secret Service is committed to devoting its expertise and resources to protecting children from online predators and to pursuing those who try to profit from sexual abuse.”
U.S. District Judge Matthew P. Brookman imposed the sentence, which also includes 10 years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meredith Wood and Tiffany J. Preston. This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation.
