St. Louis Man Charged in Kohl’s Robbery
A brazen robbery at a Kohl’s department store in Manchester, Missouri, has landed a St. Louis man in hot water with federal authorities. On February 22, 2022, Mercedes W. Gregory, 33, made an initial appearance to face federal charges previously filed in September 2021. Gregory is accused of a robbery of Kohl’s department store as well as branding a firearm while doing so.
According to the indictment, on July 12, 2021, Gregory entered the Kohl’s located in the city of Manchester and began stealing merchandise. When confronted by a Loss Prevention Officer in the parking lot, Gregory threatened him with a handgun. Gregory is prohibited from possessing a handgun after previously being convicted of a felony.
Gregory was being held in the St. Louis County Jail on unrelated charges at the time of his initial appearance. The case was investigated by the Manchester Police Department, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The indictment charges Gregory with one count of robbery and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Charges set forth are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The outcome of this case is still pending, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
Gregory’s case is a reminder that federal authorities are taking a tough stance on violent crime and gun-related offenses. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Manchester Police Department are working together to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable.
In the meantime, the community is left to wonder what drives individuals to commit such brazen crimes. As this case continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the consequences of these actions will be severe.
