John Albert Carrillo, Jr., Sexually Abusing a Minor, New Mexico 2025

A Mescalero man has pleaded guilty to the federal charge of sexually abusing a minor, leaving a community shaken and demanding justice.

John Albert Carrillo, Jr., 36, a member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, used force to commit a sexual act with a minor victim on February 15, 2025, in New Mexico, according to court records.

Carrillo pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and faces up to 15 years in prison. Upon his release from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender and must serve a term of supervised release not less than five years and up to life.

The Las Cruces Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jackson K. Dering V is prosecuting the case.
