A Hiawatha, Iowa, man has admitted to possessing methamphetamine and ammunition, sparking a federal investigation that led to a guilty plea in a Cedar Rapids court. Joshua James Feye, 36, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition and possessing methamphetamine after three prior convictions for drug or chemical crimes.
The investigation began on February 17, 2020, when the Marion Police Department responded to a tip about a rental van parked in the front yard of a property in Marion, Iowa. Officers found Feye with an outstanding arrest warrant and subsequently discovered methamphetamine, a syringe to inject methamphetamine, and ammunition.
According to court documents, Feye had previously been convicted of possession of pseudoephedrine in 2015, possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and manufacturing methamphetamine in 2009, theft in the second degree in 2006, and possession of anhydrous ammonia and lithium in 2018.
Feye remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. His punishment could range from a mandatory minimum of 90 days’ imprisonment to 13 years, accompanied by a $500,000 fine and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert, with the investigation led by the Marion Police Department in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
