Mexican National Sentenced to 10 Years for Smuggling Meth, Fentanyl Across US Border

A Mexican national was sentenced in federal court to 10 years in prison for trafficking massive quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine into the United States.

According to court documents, Marcos Kenedy Ledezma Campos, 35, attempted to enter the Presidio Port of Entry in Alpine, Texas, when agents extracted 69 bundles from the gas tank of his vehicle. Further analysis revealed the bundles contained approximately 2.4 kilograms of fentanyl pills and 33.8 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Ledeza Campos was taken into custody and later pleaded guilty to the charge on January 24. U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas made the announcement.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Greenbaum. The massive quantities of contraband seized in this case are a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Mexican cartels and the importance of continued cooperation between federal law enforcement agencies.

The harsh sentence handed down to Ledezma Campos should serve as a deterrent to others considering similar crimes. The U.S. government will continue to take a tough stance against those who seek to smuggle narcotics into our country.

In a separate statement, U.S. Attorney Esparza emphasized the significance of this case, stating, “The sentencing of Marcos Ledezma Campos is a significant victory in our ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking in the Western District of Texas.”

The case is a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of narcotics trafficking on our communities and the importance of continued vigilance by law enforcement agencies.
