Owasso Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Offenses
TULSA, Okla. – Michael Joseph Moreland, a 33-year-old resident of Owasso, has been sentenced to 121 months imprisonment for his involvement in child pornography offenses.
According to court documents, Moreland knowingly received, distributed, and possessed at least 2,947 images and 50 videos of child pornography on his computer between June 2022 and May 2023. These images and videos depicted infant/toddler abuse, bestiality, and bondage of minor child victims.
In the days leading up to Moreland’s arrest, he was frequently in the top five and often the number one downloader of child pornography in Oklahoma, making him a high-priority target for law enforcement agencies.
U.S. District Judge Sara E. Hill ordered Moreland to serve 121 months imprisonment, followed by 10 years of supervised release. Upon his release, Moreland will also be required to register as a sex offender and pay $15,000 in victim restitution.
The case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations, Edmond Police Department, and Owasso Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney George Jiang serving as the lead prosecutor. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Moreland will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. This sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography offenses and the consequences that offenders face when caught.
The public is urged to report any suspicious activity related to child exploitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or online at www报告.cybertip.org.
