Julio Palafox, a 34-year-old US citizen, was deported from Mexico to the US to face federal charges for his alleged role in a massive methamphetamine distribution conspiracy in the Bay Area, California. Palafox, who lived in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico, was accused of bringing hundreds of pounds of meth into the Northern District of California. The deportation occurred on July 24, 2026, and Palafox was arrested by US Marshals. He appeared in court on July 28, 2026, and was ordered to be detained pending trial.
The indictment, which was filed on July 11, 2024, charges Palafox with multiple counts of distribution of 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. The charges are in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 846, 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(A)(viii).
Palafox’s case is a significant example of the cooperation between US and Mexican law enforcement agencies in combating cross-border drug trafficking. The US Marshals Foreign Field Office in Guadalajara, the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Jalisco, and the Instituto Nacional de Migración worked together to facilitate Palafox’s deportation.
Palafox will next appear in court on August 17, 2026, before the Honorable Araceli Martinez-Olguin. His case serves as a warning to drug traffickers that they can be brought to justice, regardless of their attempts to evade law enforcement by fleeing to other countries.
