Nevada City Man Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Charge
A 55-year-old man has been convicted of his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in California, the Grimy Times can reveal. Donald Henry Dugan, of Nevada City, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force. According to court documents, task force officers served a state search warrant of Dugan’s residence on July 15, 2014, which resulted in the seizure of over a pound of methamphetamine, along with various items associated with controlled substance distribution.
These items included baggies, a funnel, and a digital scale. A loaded handgun and ammunition were also found in a backpack underneath Dugan’s desk. This shocking discovery raises serious concerns about the dangers posed by methamphetamine trafficking.
Dugan was previously convicted of a state felony in 1997 for possession of a controlled substance while carrying a loaded firearm. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in such illicit activities.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Matthew M. Yelovich. Dugan remains in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. on June 17, 2016. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 40 years in prison, a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, and a $5 million fine.
The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables. As the Grimy Times continues to expose the dark underbelly of crime in our community, we will keep a close eye on this case and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, we urge our readers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can work towards a safer and more just society for all.
