Meth Kingpin Caught in West Virginia
A South Charleston woman has been caught in a major methamphetamine trafficking operation. Jonda Grandoni, 52, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to Acting United States Attorney Carol Casto.
Grandoni admitted to orchestrating the delivery of a package containing 11.5 grams of methamphetamine to her home on October 12, 2012. However, law enforcement intercepted the package and set up a controlled delivery, leading to her arrest. In addition to the seized methamphetamine, Grandoni confessed to distributing over 520 grams of the illicit substance.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman is leading the prosecution, with the case being heard before United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.
Grandoni faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine when she is sentenced on April 13, 2016. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal drug trafficking operations in the Southern District of West Virginia.
The case highlights the ongoing effort to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin in the region. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, is working tirelessly to eliminate open-air drug markets and curb the spread of opiate painkillers and other substances.
As part of this initiative, law enforcement agencies are cracking down on pill trafficking and targeting those responsible for distributing these deadly substances. The community can expect to see increased efforts to address this issue in the coming months.
